Commemorating a different side to Australia’s first Saint

A book published by LPMA commemorating the life and work of Mary MacKillop and her numerous property investments is now available through the Featured Products section of our Online Shop.

The publication, called Mary MacKillop (1842-1909) Records of a Saint, was released to mark the canonisation of Australia’s first Saint and is available for purchase for $12.

The booklet documents how, as Superior General of the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart, Mary MacKillop bought property and borrowed funds to carry out the charitable work and spiritual vision that led to her canonisation. On behalf of her order she acquired property around NSW, including sites at:

  • Fort and Cumberland Streets, Sydney
  • Mount Street, North Sydney
  • Lithgow Street, Lithgow
  • Cockle Creek, Kincumber
  • Fore Street, Canterbury; and
  • Bondi Road, Waverley.

The publication includes extracts of some of the title deeds signed by Mary MacKillop and early maps and plans of the NSW properties acquired.
