Topographic data

LPI’s Digital Topographic Database (DTDB) is an important supplement to the DCDB, our cadastral database.

The DTDB contains 40 tables, or layers. Key elements include:

  • Physical contours and elevations
  • Cultural features such as schools and hospitals
  • Hydrology features including the coastline and drainage patterns
  • Transport features such as rail and ferry routes
  • Utility features such as electricity transmission lines and pipelines

The data is an important part of our program of producing topographical maps for the state. It is maintained through a program of data exchanges with many organisations throughout NSW, as well as through our regular cycle of updating our aerial imagery.

Data users sometimes arrange to receive the entire DTDB, or they may receive a subset of tables or data for some parts of the state. You can learn more about the tables at a high level by visiting the SIX Metadata Node, a catalogue of spatial datasets maintained by LPI.

A full description of the data model features can be found in the Topographic Data Dictionary (PDF 258KB).
